Valentine’s Day has come and go but 1-800-Flowers doesn’t seem like is going to disappear anytime soon. I read not too long ago that this online florist shop has an upward of almost a 20% sales conversion rate. That was back in June of 2005 and I believe this year, almost 2 years since that outrageous percentage, they will probably put up some big numbers as well. This makes me wonder, ”what it is about the site that so many customers are willing to make a purchase?” Is it the name recognition, the user-friendly design of the site, the ability to market their products, or is it a mix bag? Whatever it is, it seems to work. They are definitely one of the few ecommerce stores I would want to imitate as they are excellent in executing the bottom line — delivering sales.

We are officially on the first page of Google for a search of the “Capodimonte” keyword. I believe it is just a matter of time that we will be ranked 1st or 2nd for that keyword. This is attributed to the fact that we have created a robust linking structure which contributed greatly to our ranking success. Stay tune for the next few weeks to see how we do.
Pagerank update: Our homepage now has a pagerank of 3.

So you have an awesome web site up and visitors coming to it. Now what? Won’t it be nice to see where your visitors are coming from; what they are doing on your web site; and why some abandon your pages after a few seconds, or minutes? All this information is possible through web analytic applications. These software will allow you to track anything from customer referrers to sales conversion ratio. In short, finding out why certain pages on your web site convert versus those that don’t, and the why’s, will prove to be an instrumental tool for you.
One of the market leaders and a pioneer in providing such services in web analytics is Webtrends. Even though I haven’t personally used any of their services I have heard good things about them. If you have used them and wish to offer your feedback, feel free to do so here.

So after blogging for just 3 days this web page has already been indexed by Google. If you do a search for “Capodimonte Keyword” or “Capodimonte Articles” or even “Online Marketing Mumbo Jumbo” this page comes up on the first page, either ranked 1st or 2nd. This proves that the use of blogging has tremendous effect on the overall search engine marketing effort.
An effective way of blogging is to hyperlink the keywords that can help both the SEO process and your readers. For example, if I were to write an entry on Capodimonte Chandeliers or Capodimonte Lamps, those keywords would be linked to pages in the web store that offer those items. When Google comes the web site, it will know that the linked keywords are related to the corresponding pages that they are linked to, thus increasing the relevancy of the pages. This will also help the readers get to those items quickly as they are reading through your posts.

Ever since the emergence of YouTube, the landscape of online marketing has changed. Videos are now a main source of viral advertising where a popular clip can garner as many as millions of page views within a week. It is no surprising then that Google acquired the mega web site for 1.65 billion dollars. Apparently Google sees YouTube as a vehicle to break out of the static Pay Per Click arena and into the dynamic world of online videos. If Google is taking the charge, what are we as online store owners to do except to follow suit?
Stores such as MyWeddingFavors and BuyCostumes already came out with streaming medias in accompliment to their stores. This trend will only blossom. I believe we are just entering into the next generation of online marketing. Stay tune!

What makes a search engine like Google, Yahoo, or MSN come back to your web site more frequently than others? Simple. Fresh content. Search engines love to crawl and index pages that have been updated frequently. This is why we have included a capodimonte articles section on our web site. This will justify Googlebot’s visit to our web site every now and then.
There are so many ways to add fresh content to your web site. Blogging, article archiving, and even adding Google Adsense to your web page can turn what ordinarily would be a stale site to a search engine haven. More importantly, make sure that the fresh meat you feed to the search engines are worthy content for the readers since ultimately they are the ones you want to attract.

I have been trying to figure out why our web site is on the third page of Google for a search of the keyword “capodimonte“. This is especially shocking since we have more relevant incoming links than a lot of the sites on the first ranking page.
We do, however, only have a pagerank of 2. I wonder why this is the case since we have been linked to by many related-theme sites with high pagerank. A few things come to mind as to why this is the case. I think we lack good on-site search engine optimization factors such as keyword and description meta-tags, good use of page titles and word emphasis. It might also be that Google takes into account of how long a web site has been in existence for. Since our site is only half a year old, this might work against us in terms of receiving a higher page rank. Another thing that might cause our ranking to be lower than expected is because our domain, highendcollectibles.com, doesn’t have our target keyword, capodimonte, in it. This was one thing that a lot of the web sites on the first page of Google have in common; either they have a top-level domain that has the word capodimonte or it appears within a subdomain. As far as I know this shouldn’t really be a huge factor in terms of how web sites are ranked by Google.
